Maple Orange Basil Chicken Legs

Cuisine Style: North American Cook Time: 30 mins Serves: 4 Add to my planner

4 skinless chicken legs
1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup
2 Tbsp (30 mL) basil, fresh, chopped
1 Tbsp (15 mL) Dijon mustard, grainy
1/4 cup (60 mL) orange juice
pepper, ground

  1. Whisk the marinade ingredients together in a bowl and then pour into a resealable plastic bag. Add chicken and marinate in refrigerator at least 5-6 hours, or preferably overnight. Be sure to reserve marinade for basting.
  2. Bring reserved marinade to a boil and continue to boil, covered, for 5 minutes.
  3. Preheat barbecue to high. Grill chicken for two minutes per side. To complete cooking, place chicken to one side of the grill, away from direct heat (if using gas barbeque turn off the heat source beneath chicken and reduce heat on other side to medium.) Cook, covered, for 30 - 35 minutes, turning and basting often.
  4. When a thermometer inserted into the thigh part of the leg reads 165°F (74°C), remove chicken and serve with grilled vegetables and potatoes.
