Grandma’s Biscuits with Turkey Bacon

Tip: For soft sides, place close together on a greased baking sheet or round cake pan. For crusty sides, place apart on a baking sheet. For Gluten Free, use a gluten free mix for biscuits


2 cups (500mL) all –purpose flour
4 tsp. (20mL) Baking powder
¼ tsp. (1mL) salt 
6 tbsp. (90mL) cold butter 
¾ cup (190mL) butter milk (plain milk will work) 
2 tbsp. (30mL) finely diced Lilydale turkey back bacon  
1 tbsp. (15mL) finely diced fresh chives or green onion 
1/3 cup (80mL) sharp cheddar cheese shredded


  1. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together and cut in the cold butter with 2 knives or pastry blender. 
  2. Add butter milk, gathering the flour mixture together until mixed well. (Do not over-mix at this stage.) 
  3. Add diced turkey back bacon, chives and cheese. 
  4. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and with a rolling pin, roll to ½ inch thickness. 
  5. Cut with a biscuit cutter to desired size. Use larger cutter if using for poached Eggs Benedict. 
  6. Bake at 450°F for 10-12 minutes.
