Hoisin Glazed Turkey Burgers

Light, yet satisfying, these turkey burgers are basted with a flavourful glaze during cooking and topped with a quick homemade slaw for a burger that rivals the best take-out joints in town.

  • Asian Slaw:
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL)
    light mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL)
    rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL)
    granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL)
    fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tsp (10 mL)
    sesame oil
  • 4 cups (1 L)
    shredded coleslaw blend
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL)
    green onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL)
    cilantro leaves
  • Hoisin Burgers:
  • 4
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL)
    hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL)
    rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL)
    soy sauce
  • 2 tsp (10 mL)
  • 8
    leaves of Iceberg or Boston lettuce
  • 1/4
    English cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp (5 mL)
    sesame seeds
  1. Asian Slaw: In bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, rice vinegar, sugar, ginger and sesame oil; add coleslaw blend, green onion and cilantro, tossing until evenly coated. Let stand at room temperature for up to 30 minutes.
  2. Hoisin Turkey Burgers: Meanwhile, preheat grill to medium; grease grates well. Whisk together hoisin, vinegar, soy sauce and honey. Grill Lilydale®Homestyle Turkey Burgers for 12 to 15 minutes, turning once, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), basting all over with glaze during last 5 minutes of cooking.
  3. Place each burger on lettuce leaf. Top with sliced cucumbers and slaw. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and top with remaining lettuce.

Store sesame oil in the fridge after opening to prevent rancidity.

For a bit of heat, stir 2 tsp (10 mL) wasabi paste into the dressing for the Asian Slaw.
